Health & Welfare
The Health & Welfare Committee was organized to promote physical and spiritual well-being among the church members. Sponsoring a number of health-related activities around the church, such as the Mobile Mammography Van and monthly blood pressure checks for senior citizens, Health & Welfare offers many opportunities to stay healthy and fit at any age.
Divorce Support
To assist people who are approaching divorce or who have divorced. The sessions allow people to begin letting go of painful feelings and to affirm a new sense of self worth. Friendships are developed in a supportive environment. Topics for discussion come from Jim Smoke's excellent book, Growing Through Divorce. Group leaders are caring individuals who have been divorced for a good while and have moved on in positive directions.
The support group has three sessions during the year and meets for eight consecutive Tuesday nights from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Pre-registration is necessary and is on a first-come, first-served basis until the group is filled. A $14 book fee is payable to SUMC at the first session.
For more information, contact Anne Cox or call Anne at 256-8383, ext. 115.
Stephen Ministry
Touching the lives of hurting people with the healing love of Jesus. In 2001 Shandon United Methodist Church became a Stephen Ministry congregation, one of the over 8000 churches that participate in this distinctively Christian caring process. A Stephen Minister is a lay Christian who has received 50 hours of training and regularly participates in a continuing education and supervision session. Stephen Ministers provide one-on-one completely confidential caring for those who are hurting from some stressful event in their lives. They visit weekly, listen, pray and offer confidential Christian friendship and love. If you or someone you know would like a Stephen Minister friend, please contact Rev. Mary Green Kearse.

Care Teams
A Care Team is a group of Shandon volunteers working together to provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to individuals and families with health concerns or other specials needs. A team's activities may include transportation, preparing meals, errands, visits, phone calls and providing a break for a caregiver. Volunteers must attend a training session. For more information, contact Parish Nurse Nancy Reynolds or call Nancy at 254-4067.
