Wednesday Night
Participants in Wednesday Night share a time of fellowship around a delicious meal, served between 5:15 and 6:00 pm, September-April. This is a wonderful time to meet and eat, listen to a devotion with your friends and let the children share the Bible verses that they have learned.

Reservations are required for your meal. Please call the church office at 256-8383 or e-mail office@shandon-umc.org before Tuesday noon of each week. Cost of the meal is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Lunch Bunch
Tuesday Lunch Bunch begins with card games at 10:00 am. A full meal, with drink and dessert, is served for $5 each Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Player Dining Room. Reservations are required for your meal. Please call the church office at 256-8383 or e-mail office@shandon-umc.org by Monday of each week. Blood pressure checks are available the second Tuesdays before lunch.

Scouts
Shandon offers both boys and girls an opportunity to be involved in the Boy Scout and Girl Scout of America programs. These programs help young people develop character, leadership skills, and citizenship as well as self-worth and potential in a fun, adventure-filled and nurturing environment. For more information, contact Meredith Gammon at mgammon@shandon-umc.org or 256-8383, ext. 105.

Shandon's United Methodist Women
"The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."

The Shandon UMW is composed of close to 200 women in our church. We have 8 Circles that each meet the second week of the month during the school year. We have several that meet on Tuesday during the day and others that meet on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday nights.
The age groups may vary and the goals may vary, but the purpose of all the United Methodist Women is always the same.

Every Circle takes the responsibility of up to three "Special Friends". These special women are members of our Church and are currently unable to get out and about. The Circle members may remember these women with cards, gifts, visits or help in general - whatever the need may be.

There are four general membership meetings of the United Methodist Women each year, two are in the evening with supper and two are at lunchtime. In May we honor the Shandon Woman of the Year. This is a very special honor to an extraordinary woman of our church. At our Christmas General Meeting, we honor four individuals with Special Mission Recognition Awards. These persons have shown dedication and hard work to our church and community. Once a year we have a special program of a "Call to Prayer and Self-Denial". This is a wonderful, spiritual opportunity for all. We welcome any Methodist Women at any of our meetings. They are wonderful opportunities for fellowship and worship!

The Shandon UMW Garage Sale has become a shopping staple in the Columbia community and a successful fundraiser for the UMW. Each year, the garage sale is held in August for two days with the Dunn-Smith Ministry Center overflowing with items limited only to the imagination. It includes clothes, books, artwork, furniture, linens, lamps and more, along with a bake sale and delicious hot dogs and chili for lunch. Come visit us and discover what treasures you can find.

Augusta Beckman Circle
The Augusta Beckman Circle has monthly meetings on Monday nights at 7:30 pm in the homes of members. They welcome women of all ages, and currently, the 50s and 60s age group in the largest.

Their programs range from foreign and local missions to contemporary topics of interest shared by community leaders and members of Shandon.
The circle supports several missions with particular interest in Killingsworth Home for women and Shandon’s youth project at Petersfield. They enjoy fellowship together at all meetings and especially as they work together on the annual church garage sale sponsored by UMW.

Bruner/Major/Richardson Circle
The Bruner/Major/Richardson Circle is a combination of three smaller circles. They currently have 30 members and four special friends and meet the second Tuesday of each month at 11:00 am.

The circle studies together, enjoys fellowship and participates in all programs that are part of Shandon’s UMW. Their study leader does an excellent job of bringing meaningful messages, and they welcome new members to enjoy the fellowship.

Louise Munnerlyn Circle
The Louise Munnerlyn Circle meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 4:00 pm in Wesley Hall. They average 12 members at each meeting. In January of each year, they have a pledge service encourageing each of their members to pledge what they can toward the United Methodist Women.

Through their gifts, they support Killingsworth Home, Wallace Family LIfe Center, our friends in Petersfield, SC and others. Their Sunshine Chair remembers "Special Friends" with cards throughout the year. And they welcome anyone to visit this circle anytime.

Mary Campbell Circle
The Mary Campbell Circle is a group of Christian women who enjoy growing together in our faith as we study together, share our lives and support the needs of others. We meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 or 6:30 pm in the evening at one of our member’s homes or at the church.

We are a diverse, multi-age group. Our group enjoys supporting the mission programs of the UMW through donations of our time, talents and money. As a group, our Circle has sponsored the Adopt-A-Child project out of Guatemala since May 1, 1986. We sponsored one particular little girl for approximately 12 years, watching her grow up, until the fall of 1998 when she moved too far to be assisted by the feeding program. When our original child moved, we were assigned another girl that we intend to continue to help and support. In addition to this support, we also adopt multiple families for the "Families Helping Families" Christmas project each year.

Each month one of our devotional leaders presents an inspirational devotion for us. Please join us for one of our meetings.

Mary and Martha Circle
The Mary and Martha Circle is comprised of about 25 women who enjoy growing spiritually together and sharing their faith and support with each other as well as those in need. They are a diverse group with children ranging in age from preschool through early 20s.

This circle meets the second Tuesday of each month at 12:45 pm in Wesley Hall and enjoys a short program, fellowship and lunch.

They support the missions and projects sponsored by the United Methodist Women. And in particular, they support the Shandon Methodist Youth Mission Project and the Ronald McDonald House. They welcome visitors and new members anytime.

Susanna Wesley Circle
The Susanna Wesley Circle is over 25 members strong and growing daily. Many of the members are women with children or working women who find it easier to make evening meetings rather than morning/ lunch meetings. They meet on the second Tuesday or the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Meeting locations change from homes of members to church meetings which are usually on Wednesday nights.

This circle enjoys short programs and fellowship at their meetings. They select a book to be read over the summer to be discussed in the fall, and they have adopted cooking for the Ronald McDonald house as a mission. They are always excited to welcome visitors.

Ola B. Taylor Circle
The Ola B. Taylor Circle, though small in number, is a caring, committed group of ladies ranging in age from the 60s to 80s. They meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am in members' homes and enjoy refreshments.

They have two talented study leaders who lead them on a journey through different Christian study books every month.

They cheerfully support all United Methodist Women missions, their pledge to missions, their "special friends" and the annual garage sale, heading up the bake sale..

Ruby Lipscomb Circle
The Ruby Lipscomb Circle is a small group of active, working and numerically aging ladies. They meet on Monday evenings at 7:15 pm in the homes of our members.

Their programs vary from the Women in the Bible to mission studies. They always welcome any visitors or new members to their group.

Men's Ministry
The purpose of United Methodist Men is to be a creative, supportive fellowship of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, to grow spiritually, and to seek daily his will. Its primary purpose is to declare the centrality of Christ in the lives of men and in all of their relationships.
