Who belongs in SMY?
If you are a 7th-12th grader and are interested in hanging out in a Christian environment with a great group of youth and demonstrating our faith, not just talking about it, then YOU belong in SMY. Shandon’s youth come from a wide range of neighborhoods and schools, including Crayton, Hand, E.L. Wright, Dent, AC Flora, Dreher, Spring Valley, Richland Northeast, Hammond, Heathwood, Ben Lippen, and Cardinal Newman. You’ll find a number of different interests and spiritual walks as well. We try to reach any and all that want to find out more about a journey with Jesus Christ, and if there is not something here for you, we will listen and do our best to make it happen. "SHIFT: in direction, in attitude, in effort toward Christian discipleship."
Shandon is a Safe Sanctuary congregation and is committed to the safety of our youth and children.

Short-term weekly events are held as well, such as our Lenten Bible Study.
Psalm 150
Shandon's Youth Band, Psalm 150, continues its mission to be a rocking source of spiritual musical inspiration. The band is made up of both singers and instrumentalists. Practice is open to anyone who has a gift for music and a desire to worship in this way. Psalm 150 helps lead worship services and has been called upon to lead praise from other churches in the area.
Bella Voce
Bella Voce, which means "Beautiful Voices," is a youth choir open to youth grades 6th-12th. Practice is held each Sunday at 3:30 pm in the Choir Room.
Service
SMY is called to service within our church, our community and beyond. Our youth serve as crucifers and acolytes, ushers and scripture readers in Sunday worship, participate annually in the Souper Bowl of Caring for Harvest Hope, travel to the Petersfield Community in Hollywood, SC to provide Christmas presents, serve at the annual church Love Feast, and take part in church-wide and conference-wide summer Mission Projects, both Junior High and Senior High, that involve not only serving and bettering lives for other people, but also serving God, each other, and our neighbors.

Retreats & Weekends
Many of our teens hop on the Shandon Fun Bus to take part in several spiritual life retreats, such as trips to Springmaid Beach and Awanita Valley, and a Senior High ski trip. We address intimacy and sexuality issues during our Sexuality Weekend, and have been known to be "Locked-Out"staying out all night while going to Frankie’s Fun Park, bowling, Krispy Kreme, watching a movie, etc., or "Locked-In"staying up all night while redecorating and painting Sunday School classrooms in the Youth Zone.
Summer
During the summer, youth can count on several trips and events. In June, Junior High Mission Project; helping with Vacation Bible School; participating in Salkehatchie Summer Service; being counselors at Day Camp. In July, Youth Annual Conference and Senior High Mission Project. UMYF: Synago continues on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 pm.
Basketball
Shandon offers teams for all age groups that compete in several different church leagues. Registration begins in September and the season lasts through late February.
